Continental Bakeries to acquire Gillebagaren, Sweden

Continental Bakeries B.V. has reached an agreement with the shareholders of Gillebagaren, Valora Holding AG, to acquire Gillebagaren AB.
Continental Bakeries is a leading player in the European private label biscuits market with a top three position in most of the segments it operates in. The company has 10 factories in Europe and specialises in the design, production and distribution of private label biscuits, bread substitutes and toast. The group's sales amounted to c. 250 million euro in 2007. It has sales operations in Germany, Austria, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium and France.
Gillebagaren is a Swedish manufacturer of high-quality oat-based biscuits, traditional non oat-based biscuits, gingerbread and pastries, sold both under the Gille brand and under private label. The company operates two factories in Sweden and its total sales amount to over SEK 370 million (c. 40 million euro) in 2007.
The transaction is subject to approval of the Bundeskartellamt, the German Federal authority regulating competition issues.
Intended closure of factory Continental Bakeries in Goirle (NL)

Continental Bakeries has announced the intention to close their factory in Goirle. The production will be taken over by the other factories of Continental Bakeries. For all 39 employees of the establishment in Goirle a function will be available at nearby production locations (Dordrecht or Rucphen).
Continental Bakeries acquires The Rice Cake Factory in Belgium

Continental Bakeries has reached a conditional agreement with the shareholders of The Rice Cake Factory s.a.
The Rice Cake Factory is located in Belgium and is specialised in the production of rice cakes. The Rice Cake Factory has around 70 employees and total net sales amounts to 11,5 million euro. The factory and offices are located in Ghislenghien, south west of Brussels.
Continental Bakeries has the intention to invest in the factory and to transfer the production of her Oostmalle factory, which burnt down in May 2007. Continental Bakeries will replace as many employees as possible from Oostmalle to the factory in Ghislenghien. By acquiring The Rice Cake Factory, Continental Bakeries has reinforced her number 1 position in rice cakes. The total turnover of the group is € 240 million.
Violent fire in the factory in Oostmalle, Belgium

During the night of Sunday the 20th of May 2007 there has been a violent fire in the factory in Oostmalle, Belgium. The production part and the warehouse of the factory have gone lost in the fire. Fortunately, there haven't been any personal accidents, thanks to the adequate handling of the night shift and the firemen. The communication about the fire goes through the secretariat, which is located at the headquarters in Dordrecht.
Continental Bakeries to acquire Stieffenhofer, Germany

Continental Bakeries (Hig Hagemann) has reached a conditional agreement with the shareholders of Stieffenhofer to acquire Stieffenhofer Lebkuchen company.
Stieffenhofer is a German private label company specialised in Sprits, seasonal Lebkuchen and cake flans. Total net sales amounts to around 50 mio euro in 2006. The company has a strong position in Germany and certain export markets. The company is headquartered in Bassenheim (Koblenz) and has two large factories.

In Germany the company is known under its trade name Hig Hagemann. The company has 9 factories and specialises in the design, production and distribution of private label biscuits, bread substitutes and toast. Net sales of the group is around 180 million euro (2006). It has sales operations in Germany, Austria, Hungary, Poland, Holland, Belgium and France.
CEO of Continental Bakeries, Ruud van Henten, and General Manager of hig Hagemann, Leo Barenbrock, state "the combination of Stieffenhofer and Continental Bakeries will strengthen the position of the company and will give further opportunities for growth with a wider product assortment."
The transaction is subject to approval of the regular competition control.
