Deventer
Continental Bakeries (Deventer) B.V. (formerly Bussink) - Deventer
History
Bussink is the oldest company within Continental Bakeries. From the guild's registers of the former hanseatic town, it appears that Jacob Bussink started his bakery in 1593 under the name "In de van oudsher gekroonde Allemansgading" (In the old days crowned everybody's taste). The company was specialised in Deventer cake. Around 1910 they started to produce honey cake as well. The company grew in the middle of the last century mostly by purchases of various local competitors. In 1952 Jb. Bussink's Royal Deventer Cake factories N.V. moved from the centre to its current location. In 1973 the company was taken over by J. Lyons & Co., after which Bussink was added to Continental Bakeries B.V. (1975). The Deventer cake specialties are still sold today at the Deventer cake shop in the centre of Deventer.
